The 141st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Committee will begin 01 July 2024 at Palais Wilson in Geneva, Switzerland. The Centre has been working closely to submit a report on the List of Issues presented for the State of India.
India has a population comprised of more than 50% being under the age of 25, and 65% below the age of 35. India is also home to the greatest exercise of democracy in the world, with a total of 1.417 billion persons (2022). The Centre is concerned about the status of youth participation in public affairs under the Covenant's art. 25, and furthermore, are concerned about factors limiting youth engagement in government.
Assistant Directors Mr. Vedansh GARG and Ms. Antonia GOUVIS submitted a written contribution for the review of India, as pertaining to the list of issues drafted by the Committee, with the support of Director Mr. Samad QURAISHI. Furthermore, Mr. Garg and Ms. Gouvis will be collaborating with the Centre for Civil and Political Rights (CCPR Centre) to coordinate the testimony of Indian youth civil society to the Committee to support the contributions written.
The report will be reviewed in Geneva, Switzerland alongside other representatives of civil society during the session, beginning in July 2024.
